HIS FACE SHONE ...

Jesus led them up on a high mountain by themselves.
And He was transfigured before them;
and His face shone like the sun,
and His garments became as white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
... a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold,
a voice out of the cloud said,
“This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”
When the disciples heard this,
they fell face down to the ground and were terrified.
And Jesus came to them and touched them
and said, “Get up, and do not be afraid.”
And lifting up their eyes,
they saw no one except Jesus Himself alone.

Matthew 17:1-6

The following statement is a provocative consideration of the light that shone forth in the Transfiguration of Jesus:

God simply reveals Himself in the risen Lord Jesus in such a glorious way that no man can fail to behold His glory. It is the presence of God's splendid glory and love that is the scourge of those who reject its radiant power and light. ... [T]hose who find themselves in hell will be chastised by the scourge of love. ... It is not right to say that the sinners in hell are deprived of the love of God ... But love acts in two ways, as suffering of the reproved, and as joy in the blessed!
